Peter Duggan's Artoons was a weekly comic strip that appeared in The Guardian online from 2011 to 2014. A collection was later published by Virgin Books (see BOOKS).
Having been in the habit of painting pictures and making short funny films, some close friends made the strange suggestion that I should consider becoming a cartoonist. They reasoned it would combine my love of handmade imagery with comedy. Having never drawn cartoons before I was quite taken aback, but in giving it a go I realised it took far less time than making a film, and for much the same comic payoff. I also stumbled upon the fact that the history of art, a subject I knew a bit about, was an untouched goldmine of comic potential. The first five I drew were sent out into the world and to my delight and dawning terror I was offered a weekly strip in The Guardian online. For three and a half years I was given the opportunity to publicly hone previously non-existent cartooning skills, and for that I am very grateful.
